Default speedometer hookup

i have an 81 chevy 4 wheel full bed. one of the little things i need to hook up is the speedometer and i cant figure it out. its connected on the gauge. and i followed the wires through the firewall and its just hanging under my hood. it has a clip and everything it looks as easy as just plugging it in.. but i cant tell where to plug it in or how to completely hook it up.
