Default Tires

Trying to make a decision on what size tires to put on an 08 reg cab 4x4. Was going to go with 315/70/17's, but tire man told me to try 285/75/17's, he says it will be about the same heighth, but a tad bit skinner and wld not rub as bad. anyone have this size on there trucks? Pics and thoughts please...

Default RE: Tires

First, this is how the tire size works.

The first number, lets use the 315/70/17 as an example, is the width. This tire is 315mm wide, or in inches, 12.4(315 divided by 25.4). The second number, 70, is actually a percentage of the first number, and that gives you the sidewall height. So 70% of 315 is 220.5, or 8.7 inches. So, now we have a tire that is approx 34.4" tall, 8.7*2+17, and about 12.4" wide.

The 285/75 is going to be narrower and about half an inch shorter.

I own a tire shop and if I had both of those sizes in stock right now i'd be glad to set them side by side and take a picture, but we are just starting out so we don't exactly have a lot of inventory.

If you have any other questions i'd be glad to answer them as best as I can.

Just go with the smaller ones if they don't rub, or get a lift kit.

I personally like the reg cab 4x4 lifted with big tires look.
