tow haul mode, no holdback?
this tapping sound is more pronounced under my truck, almost sounds likeits from the trans.
When i put it in to haul mode, say i take off and it shift into 2nd gear then i let off the throttle, it will just come down to an idle and i can coast up to 50-60 MPH downhill with no RPM change, it just idles and free coasts downhill. that doesnt seem right to me. it will only hold back normally if i manually shift into whatever gear its in.
it feels like an old transmission with a stuck detent cable.
i have bad luck with whatever i get new or not so i guess im going to take it in today.

RE: tow haul mode, no holdback?
Depens on what truck you have. If you have one with the Allison transmission in will automaticall shift down in tow/haul going downhill or if you let off the gas when you have a load on. The 1500 5.3 or 6.0 s that I have driven, without the Allison, act more like you described, when decelerating in tow/haul. That is more like a car would with the coasting you mentioned.
