I have looked and searched all over the internet and referred to my manual. I have a 2011 Silverado 1500 2wd ext cab with a 5.3L, 3.42 gears and cooling package. Looking at the manual it can tow 9,700 lbs. correct? I will be towing a 7x18 ft tandem axle with double brakes and a tractor with rotary cutter. I am figuring the tractor and cutter at 5,500 lbs and trailer probably 2,300 lbs. That would leave me close to 2,000 lbs under my towing limit. The receiver hitch is rated for 10,000 lbs with weight distributing hitch. Is this necessary to have? I will secure the tractor where the weight will be distributed correctly and not all on the front of the trailer. I have 3 places to transport the tractor to. The greatest distance is 20 miles at most. I am not going to get in a hurry to get there so I will not be hauling butt.

I believe you're asking if a weight distributing hitch is required. The answer is yes. The vehicle is only rated to 5000 lbs gross trailer weight & 600 lbs max tongue weight with a weight carrying hitch. The information is contained in the Chevrolet Trailering Guide.
