towing with a stock 4.8?
I am thinking about occasionally towing with my 4.8 Silverado 4wd 3.42 axle ratio but I have a few questions. I'm not gonna be towing very often at all, so I don't really wanna install a tranny cooler, but is it okay to tow without one? also does anyone know what the towing capacity of these trucks are? and what should I limit it to without a cooler? thanks in advance

I've spent a lifetime repairing these automatics.
All I can tell you is anything heavier than a boat trailer and you're standing on the proverbial 'thin ice'. The key to towing is not to "crowd your load"....take 'er easy on acceleration.
Just my 2¢,
Allan

I like to keep 'em under 275 if at all possible. At 305 the glue breaks down (melts) and the clutch material comes off the steel. Once it starts to slip, the result is carbon.
