with the truck in park and engine on, slam on the gas and look at your tail pipes.
If a puff of black smoke comes out your truck could be running too lean

So I just started it up again and revved it a little. At first it started to hesitate a tiny bit when I let up off the accelerator and the idle became a little funky but bounced back to normal. I started revving it some more and it seemed to rev up okay. I thought maybe it could be my EGR valve, but I see that whoever owned the truck before, cut the hose, and stuck a bolt in the line.

There was no black smoke. Could it have been that maybe my fuel pump was overheating from having low gas? I ran it for a total of maybe 3-5 minutes today.

Filled up a 5 gallon gas can and dumped it in the tank. Started the truck and revved and idled it for about 10-15 mins. Then I drove it up and down the block about 4 times and then around the block once. It accelerated smoothly like it always has with no hesitation.

Could it have just been low on gas?
