under hood work light

my 95 cheyenne has the hood light but it doesnt work. if i unplug it from the main harness plug and wire it to the battery it works,but when i plug it back it doesnt work...is there a sensor or fuse that powers the main plug.if im not explaining it right,sorry...thanks

Sorry, but I don't know if there is a fuse or not, check the fuse panel.
But what you could do is take a multimeter to the wires on the wiring harness
and see if there is an Opening somewhere in the circuit or test for ground.
There may be an exposed wire touching metal that is causing it not to work.

do u have any idea on what controls the light to come on when the hood gets to a certain level?....how does it know when to come on?....thanks

My under hood light on my Blazer only works if the parking lights are switched on.I think there is a gravity switch as part of the bulb holder

You know, a few months ago I was looking for a door switch on mine just out of curiosity,
But after 5 seconds I lost interest. Fallow the wires, there has to be a door switch
That when pressed in (hood closed) will open the circuit shutting off the light.
And when the hood opens up the door switch comes out closing the circuit
Turning the light on. It is in the engine bay somewhere but idk where.
You may just have to replace a cheap door switch if you can find it.

ok thanks..i already replaced both door switches cause i had no interior lights,so now they work,,this is what happened..i noticed the bulb in the hood wasnt working so i took a spare bulb(was a old parking light bulb) had 2 contact points,and stuck it in to see if it even worked and it did,so i went and got the right bulb and now it doesnt work....thanks guys ill keep looking
