Default What does your oil pressure gauge read at an idle? Mine seems way too high

65 at an idle when truck is warm.
This seems awfully high to me.
I run 20W-50 so could it be so high cuz I am running a heavy 50 weight oil?
Since it is thicker it is slower moving and takes longer to circulate, so could that be why?
Thoughts? Opinions?
What does your guys' gauges read and what weight oil are you running?

its probably your gauge

only way to know for sure it to connect a mechnical gauge to the oil system.

at least you would know for sure.

I run 10w30 dino valvoline oil with 1 qt of lucas oil stabilizer

in ky I may get 60 psi at startup but with the engine warm it stays around 40 psi
350 engine has 90K miles

I added lucas because the engine developed a tic at 75K, the lucas took care of the tic, so I plan to continue to use it.

Does your guys' oil pressure drop to "0" after you shut the truck off?
After I shut mine off it goes down to about 12, but if I turn the key forward
So the radio and dash idiot lights come on, it then drops to 0,
But with everything off and the key out after shutting off it reads about 12.

Does anybody else's do that?

Ya, I will see if I can find someone to hook up a gauge for testing purposes
To find out if indeed the gauge is malfunctioning.

Oh, and thanks forgiving me your readings, that sounds about perfect to me,
Now I have some numbers to compare to.

In your O.P.,
is that engine temp right in the picture?
If the engine is that cold, with 50 weight, I would not be surprised to see that oil pressure.

Mine is torn down so I can not give you the gauge readings when turned off.
Or not until I go home tonight and look.
Pretty sure they go to zero.

Yes, that is the engine temp. The truck runs very cool, I have never gotten the
Needle up to that 155 degree 1st mark.
However, it is 20W-50, so when it is cold in the winter, when the truck 1st starts up it is 20 weight.
(The "W" means winter) until the truck warms up and gets the oil circulating then the oil turns into
50 weight.

Ya, thanks GS, If you could post your readings that would be great.

You should confirm with another gauge the operating temp.
155 is too cold and it should run up there where the needle would be straight up.
Standard thermostat is 198.
