Default what should I do with my truck?

Hey guys, I got a 1991 chevy cheyenne reg cab 2wd. It has a 4.3L v6 in it. I went to a mechanic and he said I should swap out the engine. Because I took it to him and the engine leaks oil like crazy. The mechanic took a look at it and said the whole bottom end of the engine is done. And it would be cheaper to get a used engine and do a swap.

How hard is it to do a swap like put a 350 in it or something along those lines. I will get a mechanic to do it for me.

Hi juice0723,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

If you live anywhere near a large city, this should be pretty easy.
Large junkyards(or "recyclers") are usually perched near the commuter corridors to big urban areas to tow fresh wrecks daily.

Not only should you find a decent selection, given the popularity of the engine you're looking for, you may find a good deal on an engine and tranny all in one piece. Furthermore, a lot of these yards also do installations.

ok thanks for the info. I live in a small city tho. not many good junkyards. but the next city about 1 hour 45 mins away probably will have something for me. I just want it done cheap as possible. Might go with the v6 again if it's easiest. Just wanted the extra power but the v6 prob is better on gas.

You'll probably find it's roughly the same cost for a six as an eight.

If you have any towing or hauling to do, you'll wish you spent what little extra it takes to get the eight.

Let your fingers do the walking. Call around, compare prices. If you have to, call around in the larger city later.
