Wont crank....sometimes

Love this truck, but. 2000 Silverado extended cab. Transmission was rebuilt about 6 months ago. Dealer replaced PCM under a recall a couple months ago. Right after PCM was replaced put over 6000 miles on truck going to and from BC Canada. Four hours from home, truck would not crank in rest stop. Jumped starter at solenoid and came on home. Checked out fuses, relay, ignition switch all ok. Took to transmission place, left it with them. Picked up they said electrical plug was loose at neutral safety switch, starting now. When I got home, came out and wouldnt start. Today checking wiring to neutral safety switch, noticed that yellow wire going to it was broke inside cover, spliced it. Still no crank, again jumped solenoid at starter, then shut off. Now it cranks with switch. Going to replace neutral safety switch and electrical plugs. Question is could the PCM the dealer installed be causing this intermittent problem??? Also baffled why it cranks with the ignition switch once it is started by jumping at solenoid. Pain in *** crawling under truck to jump solenoid....thinking of running a wire to starter button for backup, lol.

Sounds like a bad safety neutral switch. When you jump the solenoid, you drive it right? meaning you move the shifter from park, through the motions and back to park again. Next time it won't start, try putting it in neutral to see if it will start. Or hold the key to start, press firmly on the brakes, and move the shifter through its motions. Watch out though as it may start while in gear

check for corrosion around terminals, if you dont get any starter check the wires going to the solenoid for loose connections. try the easy stuff first could be a simple fix. my 91 did this for a bit.

Thanks for the reply, check out continuity on neutral safety switch when wont start, checks out good. Put a wire on on solenoid and ran to battery to crank when no crank. Checked, cranks engine when put on positive lead......tired of crawling under and jumping starter, lol. Finally it wont crank, put wire to positive, get sparks, no starter working. Crawl under and jump starter and it starts. Thinking solenoid has bad spot when wont crank. But, for some reason jumping at solenoid gets it started. Intermittent problems really suck. Gonna replace starter and solenoid, will post results....back to original post.....PCM could cause this????
