Worth the price??
Hello, Im buying my first truck and Im looking at a 2004 Silverado 1500 (extended cab) (good condition), it has 168,000 miles on it and the price is $6,000... now this is my first truck so im really not sure if that is too many miles and it will need work soon after I buy it or not.
(this is the very top of my budget so I cannot afford alot of work on it)
For a normal car I know that is ALOT of miles but for a truck im thinking it will be a little better off... right?
It would really help me out a ton since the decision has to be made soon if you could give me your input and advice I would greatly appreciate it Thanks!

that's not bad...just look at everything and make sure everything looks good. Tie rods, ball joints, etc. just basically check to see if everything operates right and if you pay attention you can see if there's anything wrong. 168,000 miles isn't bad these days. these trucks can go 300K+ on the odometer no problem so that's not really an issue. just check to see if it was maintained properly

Thanks guys, I decided to get it looked at by a mechanic and he said that the engine and tyranny were in good shape overall the only thing it needs is replacement brake pads so I'm going to go ahead and buy it, thanks for the input though it was very helpful!

Just do an oil & filter change, lube the chassis, replace the air filter and give it a good clean-up. The truck should serve you well.
Within the next month or so, I would suggest a BG transmission flush, a BG fuel injection cleaning, flushing out the coolant and perhaps having the rear differential fluid changed. Soon thereafter, get new shocks (if they have not already been replaced) and keep a close eye on everything else {i.e., belts, hoses, etc.}.
Good luck!!
P.S. I have a 2004 and have about 93,000 miles on it now.
