Default Yes, The NEWB that needs buying advice

Hello from a former Dodge 2500 outcast.
I am heading off Monday to buy a 2007 2500HD (new style), Vortec 6.0, 4x4, 3.73, crew, LWB with 64,000. Can someone help me answer these questions:

Z85 vs Z71 as far as truck clearance (and/or heighth). This truck comes with Z85 which sounds good for 4x4 needs on asphalt but I am wondering if the Z85 is competent in off road situations. Obvioulsy, not as good as Z71 but is the clearance there for uneven terrain and will I be bottoming out all the time in moderate off road situations?

The RPOs list:
AP3. This does mean remote start, yes? I see some conflcit on this.
DK8. Supposedly, its deluxe console but i dont see garage door opener and such listed. Does DK8 mean homelink or GD opener?
DL8. Does this mean no turn signal integration in the mirror?
G80. Does the have the ability to lock as well? Does anyone know if you can lock it in the cab or is it 100% computer controlled?
CMD. Does this mean made in America...Flint?

I appreciate any help I can get. Also, anything I should look out for for the 2007.5 2500 with Vortec 6.0...sounds, feelings, vibrations, smells, anything at all I should do on the test drive?

Thank you all!!

I always thought that the Z71 was only available on 1/2-ton trucks......but I could be wrong. Maybe the Z85 is the version offered on the HD trucks. I just don't know. (My 1500 is 2wd, so I know little about 4x4 stuff.)

Regarding the assembly point, I know that my '04 hails from Canada. The easiest way to tell is by the VIN. A US-built vehicle begins with a "1" or "4" - and "2" indicates Canada, "3" is Mexico and "W" is Germany.

Good luck with your 'new' truck!!

z85 is a heavy duty suspention not realy for off road as much as it is for pulling
z71 is the offroad package(offered on all silverados) and is better for off road it comes with skid plates better socks and all the stuff needed for off road

i wouldnt get a 4x4 with out the z71
(btw they do make z71 2wd)

Don't expect great mileage out of that 6.0. Granted i have 4.10 gears, but I only get 15mpg, and thats after a CAI, custom tune, and exhaust. But other than the fuel, my 6.0 has been awesome, bought it brand new. just crossed 41,000 today.

Default Got the truck last night

It's mine.

I know, I know...post some PICS!! I will be posting some pics in just a bit.

I love it...the mileage was over average (Purchased 12/11/07) with 64,425 on her. However, I average about 10,000 a year so over 3 years it should come back down. I was a little concerend because he hauled a fifth wheel but it was one owner, same small dealership that handled new and used so they knew the history pretty good. 20% of the miles were tow.

I am in love with the truck but feel free to beat up on me with the questions. I want to make sure it is all handled and out in the open. Anything you want to know or I should know?

One small dissapointment, it says RPO DK8 but it has no Lear garage door opener. I saw the online posts on how to replace...seems easy.

Vortec got 16.7 AVG on the way home (2 hour drive). Not bad but not my 2010 Honda Accord!!

Thanks for the help guys.

I got some pics of the truck. I didn't want you guys to see it with the stock 245s

2007 2500HD NBS
V73 - Vehicle Statement. Made in Flint, MI
LY6 - Gen IV Vortec 6.0
MYD - 6L90 Hydro-Matic Transmission
NQF - Electronic Transfer Case
KNP - Transmission Cooler
G80 - Eaton Locker
Z85 - 4x4
Z82 - Trailer Package
JL1 - Trailer Brake
GT4 - 3.73 -- seems like an oxymoron with Z82, JL1
T96 - Fogs

Michelin 265s on stock 16" rims (FAT)
LineX
I just replaced my tailgate cap and overhead console (added Lear Garage door)
Got tow mirrors on the way (monster auto with turn signal on outside of mirrors)
Running Boards...still deciding

Pretty simple PICS for now:

Default z truck

I can't remember if it comes with, but get the locking differential for much better four wheel performance.
The remote start is gimmick, I have it but what's the point, new vehicles don't require much warm up, just enough to get the oil up in the motor. If you start your truck before you fasten your seat belt your pretty good.

The 8 to 4 cylinder gas saving feature is also a bust, the only time it kicks in is when you don't touch the gas or push it so lightly that you can't even maintain speed down a slight grade.

I'm not a big fan of the Z package unless you want most of the things that comes on it. Who wants to pay extra for some "custom" decals and paint. It's not really custom because you will see a lot of trucks that look the same. Go buy a pin stripe job or something.

Don't get me wrong Chevy makes a great truck, but like all manufacturers they want to suck you in with the overpriced add-ons.

for the mirrors, just upgrade the fuses by 5 amps (if 15A swap to 20A)

I forgot to mention that when I move the mirrors on the passenger side...sometimes the drivers mirror moves too (depending on direction selected). I fear these mirrors arent compatible with my door modules.

I posted in a different post the entire saga but any help would be appreciated.

If increase the amperage, dont i run the danger of burning up the mirror motors?
