i took my car to firestone complete auto care to get my ignition wires fixed and they told me that at 60,000 miles i need my timing belt fixed. I tried to get it fixed there and they couldnt do it cuz they needed a certain tool for my car to take a part off since there are daewoo parts ( i didnt have a clue about that!!!) Now i have to go to the dealer to get it fixed and was wondering about how much it was going to set me back? firestone was going to charge me about 480... that was with the labor and doing the water pump too. Please let me know A.S.A.P. Im nervous to drive my car very far. the people at firestone said the belt didnt look very bad. no cracks just slight wear to the timing belt

This is just a normal wear and tear maintenance item. You don't need to get it "fixed," you need to get it replaced so that it doesn't break. Aveo's use what is called an "interference engine" and this means that if the timing belt breaks (or if the waterpump locks up and strips the timing belt), you will need to replace either the heads or the engine. Most people do a complete engine swap.
Would I replace it? Yes, I would do so as soon as you can. I sell a ton of Aveo engines, especially in '04's. They are good engines as long as they are maintained, but alas, people don't maintain them as well as they should.
