Aveo a/c stops blowing

Aveo a/c stops blowing
My a/c works well for a few minutes. After a while we notice that there is no cold air coming out. Even though the fan is still madly humming away. It's like some vent inside is closing or pressurizing or something. What little air that is coming out seems cold but hard to tell since it isn't blowing. Turning switches on and off, opening and closing vents and dials does nothing. However, if I open the windows and turn off the a/c for a bit, then turn it back on, the air will start blowing again, and cold. I don't know if opening the windows is helping but in any case, when I have this problem, the fan never stops or slows, just the air stops coming out. I can't see it being a compressor problem since that would not affect the blower, would it? Anyone else have this problem? Maybe not just Aveo thing. Any suggestions? Thanks -- Kelly

Ok Kelly. I would suggest you have the vehicle checked by your local dealership. Your vehicle should still be under the 3 year 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty (depending on your mileage) which would cover you for this fix, under normal circumstances. If you have any issues or encounter any problems with this feel free to contact me through the forum. I hope this helps you.

Aveo A/C
Thanks Jeff. Yeah... 140,000 km is a little over the warrantee period. Hoping someone had some insight if I should go under the dash and check vents, filters, etc. Thought it couldn't need a recharge, since we get gold air, but have to keep turning it off for a couple of minutes. Like, is it that we're turning it off? Playing with vents? Opening the windows? Or would a/c needing a recharge behave thus? thanks Kelly

2007 Aveo A/C problem
Kelly,
I am having the same problem and was wondering if anyone else had the problem. Of course now the problem has worsened and the air never blows. When you turn the **** you can her the compressor turn on, but nothing happens. I live in San Marcos, TX and it's hot here and I'm not sure what to do. Have you heard anything helpful to fix the problem.

Get in line for AC issues
I have a 2008 Chevy Aveo with 103,000 miles on it. The air conditioning compressor just failed on this car, and I have been told that replacing it will cost $850. The fact that such a vital and expensive part failed on a car that is only 4 years old and does not contain an extreme amount of miles is unbelievable and reflects the poor quality of Chevrolet. Thus, I contacted Chevy about it, was assigned to a representative, and was told to take it into a dealership to have it diagnosed and then we would talk about them possibly providing cost assistance. The dealership said that the expansion valve needed to be replaced and that the compressor should work fine after that. I reported this to Chevy, who said that they would not provide any cost assistance because of the mileage on the car (by the way, they knew the mileage of the car BEFORE they told me to take it for a diagnosis, which I paid $40, and that they would determine afterward whether to provide cost assistance or not). So I took the car back to my mechanic, who replaced the expansion valve. Guess what? The air still doesn't cool and, just as my mechanic had originally stated, the compressor has to be replaced. So, I am having to spend $850 to replace the compressor on a 4 year old car that Chevy deems as high mileage. Thus, Chevy is basically telling me that their parts go to crap around 100,000 miles, which is very early on vehicles these days. They could have at least paid for the part. I have owned numerous vehicles and driven them until they stop; I have never had such an expensive part failure on a vehicle this young and at this amount of miles. Oh, and this is not an isolated incident. Strangely, my friend who owns a Chevrolet truck is going through the EXACT same issue with his compressor; this will be his second compressor in 4 months! This is my first and last Chevrolet purchase. So, beware potential Chevrolet buyers: if you want a vehicle that's in it for the duration, look elsewhere.<O</O

don't hijack someone else's thread to vent for 15 lines of your problem. Start a new thread.
Do you have a comment that can help the original poster?
To the OP. Sounds like low refridgerant level. The system should be recovered and the charge amount quantified.

Uh, the thread is about AC issues on the Aveo, so I posted under it. Just like TankLizzard, who posted about his own AC issues. Did he have anything to offer to help the original poster? No. The topic of the thread is "Aveo A/C Stops Blowing" which is exactly what mine did.
