They're easy to clean w/ brake cleaner. But then I've never had one that looked "dirty".

This my be a dumb questions but what is the PCV is it an easy fix to just put in a new one? i can change oil spark plugs and breaks but i havent really ever had to do much more...
The PCV is "positive crankcase ventilation" if it becomes blocked it can cause oil to be pushed into the cylinders and be burned leading to oil consumption....

its one of the items on the check list of GM to address when looking into the newer versions of the 5.3l consuming oil...

So digging around checking things on the car and when i went to take off the oil cap to top it off i noticed there was a little bit of cream colored residue in the cap but when i pulled out the dipstick it just has clean oil on it? Also the fill tube moves around slightly and looks like oil may be seeping out, sorry about the terminology im not very mechanical lol but i attached a pic here hope this can explain it<O</O

The cream colored goo is oil and water, its probably just moisture build up at the cap...if you are not seeing any coolant usage or other signs of water leaking into the engine, I would not worry too much about it, wipe it out and monitor.,,

You might try removing the oil filler neck and cleaning or replacing the o-ring.
if the plastic is cracked, replace the oil filler neck...

You need to check the coolant reservoir to make sure you're not getting coolant in the crankcase.
