I can't for the life of me figure out whats causing this problem...
After the car is warmed up and mostly when sitting idle for awhile, the truck has a loud RATTLE when accelerating. It sounds like the timing being off in an older vehicle. I changed the plugs, wires, all fluids, exhaust system, u-joints. I don't know what ut could be... any ideas? Anyone else having or had same issue?

Got the same issue in my 03 suburban 1500. Been to three mechanics who still can’t figure out where it is coming from. No clue what it could possibly be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've had the belt tensioner get worn as the miles go on and rattle.
Also hit your cats with a rubber mallet and see if they rattle, inner cat honeycomb cores can get loose and rattle along with muffler baffles.

Update: Crawled under the pass. Side yesterday and hit the cat with a rubber mallet. Reproduced the rattle perfectly all the way down the exhaust pipe. Wondering if there is anything I can do before completely replacing the converters. (Yes I live in a required emissions testing area).

I would live with it if it's still running good until it doesn't pass inspection or starts running like exhaust is plugged up. Especially if it has California emissions as it's dealer only cats for those models as aftermarket cats aren't Cali. spec. only Federal spec..
Your probably going to have to due a complete exhaust system anyway as pieces of cat will be stuck in the muffler.

Gonna have to do an aftermarket cat replacement. I bought the car two months ago and it already won’t pass an inspection. This is the only problem I’m having with it.

Check your underhood emissions sticker to see if it has CA emissions. Many states require CA emissions not just vehicles sold in CA.Originally Posted by Caseymayo212

NJ, NY require CA emissions for example that I know of for sure. Many other states do also.
Fed cats will not work on a CA equipped vehicle, it will constantly set codes for cat failure.
