R12 and R134a oils are not compatible, so if you convert a R12 system to R134a, you have to make sure that the system is thoroughly flushed. Not positive but I don't think the O-rings are compatible either. Plus the R134a is not as efficient so the old system won't cool as well.

Why would R12 corrode the lines?
