02 Suburban w/factory alarm - horn is now honking twice on unlock
Sorry if this has been covered before. I searched and found nothing related to my problem.
I own an 02 Suburban that has suddenly started honking the horn when locking and unlocking the doors with the remote - once for lock, twice for unlock.
Normally, a single press of the remote to lock the car does not honk the horn. That would require two presses of the lock button within 5 seconds - and then you'd get a confirmation "honk" indicating the doors are locked. When unlocking the car, a single press would unlock the driver's door and a double press unlocks all doors and the tailgate and the horn would NOT honk. My '02 Tahoe works this exact same way so I assume this is the normal, factory setting.
For the last week, my horn honks once on a single press of the lock button and twice on a single press of the unlock button. The locking mechanisms seem to behave the same as they always have. The only difference now is the annoying honking every time I lock or unlock my car. I'm sure my neighbors don't appreciate this at 11 pm every night when I come home from work.
As far as I know, there is no valet mode for the factory alarm. I'm stumped and can't figure out why the alarm/lock settings have suddenly changed. I have never had a false alarm.
I know how to program additional key fobs and I'm also familiar with programming the lock functions. I know in newer models, there is a way to change the settings in the DIC but for the life of me, I could not find any information on how to change how the horn behaves when locking and unlocking the doors on an '02.
Any help or guidance would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,
Greg

Thank you! I wish I knew how to check the programming through the DIC. I'm not sure it can be done on a 2002, though. I don't have any controls on the steering wheel and I wasn't able to find anything in the owner's manual or searching on Google.
check your owners manuel my 2001 GMC yukon XL did the same thing its in there. tells you how to stop it or honk when you unlock it or lock it. it under security or alarm controls. if you dont see it contact the dealer they should help you over the phone least my shop will.
