Default 05 Tahoe Drivetrain options

Hey guys, my sister just bought a 05 Tahoe fully loaded with Autoride and the dealer says it has 4wd. I have a 4wd blazer and the button selections for her Tahoe are different and I have never seen them before she bought the vehicle. This Tahoe only has 3 buttons on the left of the steering wheel, not the typical 4 with the Auto selection. The top button looks like the vehicle with skid marks under it, the second button looks like the drivetrain with the front wheels turned and an angle, the third button is the typical 4 low button. Can anyone provide any insight to this option for the drivetrain? Is the vehicle basically AWD with the ability to select a low gear in the transfer case? TIA!

The system in your sisters 2005 Tahoe is the $2,200 optional AWD sytem, it is always engaged and is the same system that is used on the Cadillac Escalade.
The AWD system is intended primarily for on-raod useage, it utilizes an open front differential and the best part is that it improves traction on dry pavement which can greatly enhance the vehicles cornering capability.

The AWD system uses the same transfer case as the Hummer H2 and also includes the Stabilitrak system.

ZX thanks for the quick reply. Can they tow with this system? They are looking to eventually add a boat, will they be able to use the tahoe for trips or will they need to use their 1500 truck? Thanks again.

The system does not limit the Tahoe's tow capability, infact the StabiliTrak system will add a margin of safety, the Tahoe has a similar tow rating to a 5.3L equipped 1500 Silverado.
