Mike Valentine is the Chief Designer and owner of Valentine Research, Inc (makers of the Valentine 1). He also happens to be the co-inventor/designer of the origina Escort detector.

You make the call.

One feature that jumps out at me that seperates the two is the directional indicator on the V1. It supposedly can tell you by arrows which direction the radar signal is coming. I do not know how effective this feature is. I would like to hear from a V1 user on this.
Oh, make no mistake about it... the directional arrows are MONUMENTAL to the true effectiveness of the V1. It's a clear signal as to WHERE the radar is (in front of you, to the side, or behind you). In every case where my V1 picks up a radar signal (actual radar or not), I always heed it's call and I *especially* pay attention to WHERE the radar is.

Just today alone it hit on two "bogeys" which were actual patrol cars driving with their hard-mounted in-car radar systems. One was driving the other way and I clearly knew that V1 was telling me it is in front me....then to my side, then behind me. It turned out to be a stealthy white-painted CHP Clown Victoria with no roof rack. I would have missed this car alltogether without the directional arrows to tell me where it was. The other was a CHP cruiser who had just pulled over a car and the officer left his radar gun/system on...V1 picked up on that signal half a mile back.

One time where V1 saved me, it picked up on Instant-On scatter from other cars being zapped ahead of me a full 3/4 of a mile back! Unbelievable how this unit picked up the scatter that far back where I was WELL out of sight of the cop and I was dpoing 85 on the freeway.

I also like the sleek, refined styling of the Escort compared to the very utilitarian boxy design of the V1. I have the blue lighted display and it looks great, especially at night.
True, the V1 is a bit bulky, but when mounted up like mine, you simply don't pay attention to it. Besides, the large number display of the bogey counter and the large volume dial (used to also push to silence it) are very welcomed with my large hands/fingers and often poor eyesight.

I enjoy when my v1 tells me someone has a jammer...the detector will tell me within 3 seconds if it is a true cop or a jammer someone has. The directional arrows are the defining difference between the two and makes a world of difference in city driving.

Are you referring to the "J" that you often see on the display? That's not for "Jammer", but rather for "Junk". I never really understood how that works, but V1 states that some "cheaper model" detectors actually emit some signals and V1 picks up and scan deem as "junk" instead of actual radar.

On a few occasions on the highway, my V1 would go bonkers with a rear bogey and I would slow down and the signal would get stronger and then to my side, then in front of me and quickly fade away once in front of me. Yet there were no cops and the V1 didn't show "junk".

I've only seen the "J" junk display in the V1 about 3 or 4 times, and it happens so fast that I can't get a fix on what other car is picked up on. But on the two occasions where on the freeway and it went bonkers when another car came up on me, both of those times that other car had what appeared to be a cheaper looking detector sitting on their dash or suction-cupped to the windshiheld (i.e. Cobra or Uniden model that you can buy at Fry's or something for like $59.99..you know... one of the cheap junky ones that aren't worth a hill of beans).

Does a "jammer" in fact emit a X, K, Ka, etc signal that V1 actually picks up on?

The little bit of research I did on jammers indicated that they in fact did emit a signal on the same band as the radar but with a frequency shift that made it appear that you were going at whatever preset speed. The research also indicated that they were "junk".

I agree that the arrows and bogey counter make all the difference in the world. Previously I only owned Escorts but decided to try the V1. Never go back.

has anyone used the invisicord on the 2007 Tahoe? I ordered one and have it in hand but (1) the pins dont want to stay in tight and (2) having a weird time tracing the 12V supply line to the mirror. There is a post at the invisicord site that says first you follow the 2003 Silverado install instructions then a supplemental post says the new tahoe reuires you to do black to black and red to the yellow wire 4th row down. My yellow is registering 14.4 volts, not 12 so i am reluctant. My pins wont seat tightly anyway so I have bigger probs.

Anyone put an invisicord in their 2007 Tahoe with Onstar? I have a LTZ myself but guess the mirros are pretty standard. I'd also like to know the color wire configuration and any problems others have had getting the wires to seat tight. I am afraid of damaging or breaking something and definitely of picking the wrong wire for the 12V connect.

Many thanks.

Did anyone ever answer you? I have an invisicord and (1) cant get the pins to seat and (2) cant find which wire is 12V to properly connect to anyway. Appreciate your input.

I just got a new Tahoe and I love it...but now I need to install a radar detector. Where
can I tap into a 12volt fused accessory?

12V and 14.4V are pretty interchangeable. You can use it.

On the 07 tahoe, the pink cable (has a strip, cant remember the color), 4 down on the left is 12v. place the pins on the side of the cable which is tight against the connector itself. there is more resistance on that side and it holds the pins nicely.
