'07 Tahoe actin up...
Hey guys new to the forum but am trying to find some ideas as to what is going on with my tahoe...
I havean 07 LTZ 4WD with 60k on it, and am very happy with it but am having some issues that the dealership is having problems resolving..
First at 35,000 miles the stearing shaft was replaced because of a "click" or "knock" that would occure when turning at low speeds and or dry turing. In the old tahoes this was solved by stuffing it with greese if im not mistaken but with the new steering system this was a major issue...well 20k ish later it is doing the exact same thing again, and the dealership is telling me this is very dangerous, and I need to get it replaced AGAIN very soon (this time on my dime of course and w/o a rental)...any ideas what may be causing this!?
Second at times when I start the car with the remote as soon as the car starts it makes this very loud "clunk" and literaly you can see the car jerk and turn off...starts right back when I use the key...dealership cant dup, and says they don't know what would cause that...
also glad to see that I am not the only one that can feel the car switchin from 8to 4...

I have heard/was under impression that any work done under warrenty was covered by the same warrenty probably the 12mo 12k miles maybe the 3yr 36k? from date /miles of repair....The dealer should be able to tell you, they don't eat the cost GM does. The dealer may have to go thru some GM hoops.

well I tried talking with the service manager yesterday about there being a warrenty on the steeringshaft since they just replaced it. He went into this big song and dance that he has not convinced that it was not because of my drivng habits!!!!!!
At this point I started getting pretty man, and telling him that me putting tons of miles on a new should not cause it to eat through steering shafts faster than breaks!!
So I am going to try to get up with the local service rep to see if there is in fact anything they can do about this, I would hate to trade it already; they are only willing to give me $19000 for it..lol

What driving habits are they saying caused it?
How much are they quoting the repair at?
There seems to be pieces missing (of the story), is your truck modified, over sized tires, lots of off road, after market lift?
High miliage doesnt wear out steering shafts, off roading, poor maintenace, excess loads, out of round bouncy tires, poor alignment do....
20k miles and it happens again?! that sounds to me to be a defective repair or replacement part.
But if your taking it off road and running it thru muddy ruts and rocky roads they may have a point....
If you arent finding a lot of other folks with similar failures on the same type vehicle you have to think that you got a lemon or you are really wearing it out.
You could try contacting GM customer support and see what they say or another dealership, if you had it repaired by a GM dealer your repair record should be available.

no its never been driven real hard, been off road once in the mountains, and on the beach twice, the rest is just city and highway driving. During the summer there is a boat behind it or jet skis most weekends, but it is all within the tow ratings. He said that because he thinks I drive it hard because I have a Z06 too, and they all know I race it. They quoted me $1300 to fix it, and the peeling interior door handle...I dont remember how it was split.
I spoke with the area service rep, and I am bringing the truck back in on Thursday for him to look at it with the "master mechaninc"...he did say that if it is the same problem they will cover it. Which i am def. happy with, but I hope they are able to find the underlying problem.

if this is the second time it happens you could be on the road to a "lemon law" issue. If you havent modified anything that can related to your steering column issue and they fixed it under warranty then their job should be covered under warranty.
