Default 1997 Suburban has a bang and won't start

I rebuilt the motor and now when trying to start it there is a banging when
turning it over and it won't start. It sounds like it coming from the driver's side.
What could be the problem?

Just asking, did you use a prelube on the top half of the engine, and since for a new engine is cranking as if it has no resistance, check plugs for proper seating.

I used assembly lube on the top half. I will check the plugs in the AM. It is the first motor I have ever rebuilt.
