Default 1999 suburban 5.7 (gas) air intake

As most of you know, the air enters somewhere around the battery/headlight area and comes through the fender area to the air filter. This is better than engine compartment air but is it considered "cold air" ? Is there an improvement for this factory system? Thanks.

Yes it's cold air. under hood air is air that has gone through a hot radiator and condenser. Factory intakes flow more air than a stock or mild tuned engine will ever need.
