Default 2001 Suburban LT 2500 HELP

Hi All,
Have spent a lot of time on this site in the Tahoe side but have never ventured over to the Burb section - hope I can get some help on an issue.
A friend of mine is interested in buying a 2001 2500 Suburban with 125k miles on it as a family vehicle. Neither he or I know much about the 6.0 liter engine and how that might affect gas mileage, engine life, etc. Can anyone speak to the value of having the bigger engine, towing capabilities, or any other benefits/downsides to the 2500? Would you recommend it over the 1500? How many miles can he expeect out of the engine (assuming it's in good shape now)? Any input is much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!
Brian
