Default 2003 LT Shocks... price shocker?

I have a 2003 LT, with the auto ride suspension. The two rear shocks are leaking. Two dealership quoted me over $2000. The independent shop down the street quoted me $1700.

This right? What is special about these shocks? This auto ride feature is that much to maintain?

I think what you are running into there is the $100 they are charging you an hour for labor, plus the mark-up on parts. Why not look up the part numbers online to see what you could get them for?

That is quite a price, but yes the auto ride suspension is expensive. There are retailers that will sell direct replacements for the auto ride, but I have heard they are $300/each. Cheaper than what you've been quotes, but that's just the part price.

You can replace them with regular shocks if you like, though. I believe you have to replace the springs as well if you do so.
