RE: 2007 MDS question
I am guessing that is the answer also. I am not an engineer but I am a diesel mechanic and I am thinking that turning up the idle a couple hundred RPM's in V4 mode would have been more efficient than V8. If it accessories that bog down the engine I would also think that could have been detected and compensated for.

Go out and unplug 4 of your spark plug wires while your Tahoe’s idling and then report back to us your findings......hurry!

Dave,
I tried it and it actually had a better idle. I might just leave it like that. I got about 30MPG average and it had about the same HP.

Havent got the gears yet. Once I do I might plug at least one or two of the other plugs back up. I dont know I will have to test all plugs and see what combination of plugs gives me the best performance and gas mileage with the 6:73 gears.
