I am looking for ideas. I’m confused. The engine spun with no compression after it stopped running. I thought I broke the timing chain so I pulled the cover. The chain was intact but the tensioner was shredded with parts meshed in the chain and sprockets. The cam sprocket was missing 22 teeth and the crank sprocket 6 teeth. So I replaced both sprockets, chain, tensioner, t/c cover and all associated gaskets. Replaced water pump, oil pump and thermostat while I had it apart.set #1 cyl to TDC, the marks showed the cam to Geoff about 3 teeth so I realigned the cam put all back together and on restart got the same whirring no comp sound I started with. Pulled both valve covers and dry cranked it all the rods, springs, and valves seem to be working as advertised. The timing marks are lined up and still 0 comp across the board. I’ve investigated the timing being 180 deg out but it’s not. Please help

I am assuming you did a compression test on each cylinder with all plugs out. Did you? You may have bent valves from pistons hitting them when running out of time when it died. You may actually have compression in some cylinders and none in others.

If you Are sure the timing is correct, as stated, could be bent valves. My suggestion is remove all spark plugs, check each clyinder for compression.
