2013 new suburban ltz fuel usage
Hello everyone,
I just purchased half ton Chevy Suburban LTZ. Windows sticker shows 15mph city 19mph highway and 17mph combined usage per gallon but unfortunately my first full tank gave me 325 miles, which approximately average 10.3 mph per gallon. this is very low, is this normal. please let me know.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
First of all I would wait until I had about 500 miles on the odometer before I got concerned. Are you just going by the amount of gas you used based on the capacity of the tank or are you actually calculating the gallons you put in for a full tank into the miles traveled on that fill?

Thank you for your reply. I did called Chevy factory and they advised me that i need to wait at least 2500 miles to get the average. and yes 73 shark I calculated 2 way; first suburbans computer shoving 10.3 mph average, second my first tank gave me 325 miles of driving and approx 31 gallon capacity which gave me 10.4 mph per gallon. Tomorrow I will visit the dealer to find out what is the problem. I will update once I get the answers from them.

I can't argue that new rides need a break in period, but...
500, 2500 miles, do they realize how much that's costing us
while we generously comply with that crap.
IMHO, New rides should get within 10% of what they PROMCE right off the Showroom Floor ! I don't recall any statement on the window sticker saying you have to wait for six months to a year (in some cases) to get that mileage...IF you ever do.

I was going to suggest to wait until after the first oil change has been done to give any real credence to MPG...
Keep in mind though that driving habits are going to be the biggest impactors to MPG, baby it and keep the speeds under 60 mph and see if the mpg changes...
An easy rule to use is if you are using your brakes to slow down a lot, then you are accelerating too much...

The really bad news is the DIC reading is very optimistic. You need to taken the difference in the odometer readings between fill ups divided by the gallons you pump in. The tank capacity doesn't enter into the equation.
My DICs have always shown the mpg about 10% higher than the real calculation.
