Default 2015 Tahoe LTZ Rough Ride

Love my Tahoe but the ride is horrible. I can't imagine the rattles this thing will have with 50,000 miles after shaking all the bolts loose. Researched the net and found this has become a known problem among 2015 Tahoe and Suburban owners. There's a Chevrolet TSB that addresses this issue (5429) but don't expect your dealer to know anything about it. It was just broadcast June 1 2016. I have a very good friend who works at a Chevrolet dealer. He's the parts and service director. I made him aware of this TSB and he ordered the parts. Shocks and springs is what this TSB calls for. The parts were replaced with the new parts but the problem is worse than it was before. My friend contacted GM tech and was told to inform me that after all I am driving a truck. This neither set well with me or my friend. So he up his effort a level and at this point we are waiting for the GM tech specialist to contact us. Very disappointed in GM. It's a machine with lots of moving parts so having an issue should be more expected than not. But to be told to remember that I'm driving a truck is offensive. Yeah I'm driving a $75,000.00 truck but it rides like a $5000.00 milk wagon. No dampening from the suspension just feels like it's riding directly on the axles.

Another visit to the dealership service department. Although the service director is a friend I couldn't quite communicate that there were two issues. The harsh ride of course was one issue but the shaking at hwy speeds had not been addressed. So this very knowledgeable friend took the time on a very busy Friday to take a long ride with me. The Tahoe shook just as I said it would. He says "it feels like the tires are out of balance". The odd thing about that is that the shake changes with each road surface and sometimes it even goes away. This to my knowledge could not be tire balance because a tire is either balanced or not and should not change according to road surface. And it didn't shake until the new parts were installed which only confused the issue. He suggested a "Road Force" balance which would cost $120.00. Whew....a $120.00 wheel balance! The guy even offered to comp the cost. I have never been one to look for a free ride and told him that I would not except his offer and wold pay the cost myself. The balance was successful and I no longer have the shake. And I thought I knew more than someone who deals with these issues every day. I have also purchased a gift card for a local steak house to show my appreciation for his patience. Now on to the harsh ride.....waiting for GM to resolve the problem. Sorry for the length but I felt I had to explain the experience.

Have you had any experience in earlier versions of Tahoes? I thought my wife's 2004 ride better than my 2007 or 2010. And her 2013 Sequoia rides better than either one. Haven't driven the latest version so can't comment on its ride.

Before the 2015 I had a 2012 Tahoe and although it did ride rougher than I would have expected the ride was acceptable. I can run over a fly in the 2015 and it feels like a speed bump...and the service director at the dealership agrees with me. My wife and I retired and purchased a 6500lb travel trailer and even though I was very happy with the Toyota's I had owned I was forced to look for something with more towing ability. Even the Toyota Land Cruiser which is a tank will not match the Tahoe regarding towing. So now I'm waiting for GM tech to contact the service director with what I hope will be a solution. Most people who seem to be very knowledgeable of such things feel the solution will be in the software for the Magnetic Suspension. Magnetic suspension....software.....where will this end? What was wrong with plain old shocks and struts? Adjust spring rates for the load and offer an air suspension option. Too simple.

I was reading an article about the Corvette magnetic suspension and I'm wondering if somehow the computer is causing the fluid to be stiff all the time.

You can try different shocks. I recently replaced some old front shocks on my Suburban, with some Gabriel ProGuard from AutoZone. I got mediocre shocks based on price. Meaning not the cheapest, nor the most costly.

I must say I am not happy at all with them. The old worn out shocks were much more smoother ride. With the Gabriel ProGuard, I feel every single bump in the road.

I am going to yank them out soon, and replace them with something else.

Maybe someone has suggestions. Maybe Bilsteins at about $90 each?

I know it's a truck but I've driven trucks that drive smoother than my 2016 Tahoe LT!

After driving 5 Suburban's over the last 30 yrs. I purchased a 2016 Tahoe LT last year. Unless the road is very smooth it rides rough. This was very disappointing since my Suburban's were very smooth. I was about ready to trade it for a 2016 Tahoe LTZ for a difference of $ 10,000. After taking test drive I couldn't tell that there was much, if any, improvement with the supposedly better suspension. I turned the keys in after the test drive and said "No Thank You".

I only have about 2,000 miles on the 2016 Tahoe and last week my MyLink just went blank and would not come back on. A few days later it did come on. Bottom line, the 2016 Tahoe LT has been my worse SUV purchase!

This is really sad. Everyone who has ridden in my much older Suburban, and have never been in one, comment on how smooth the ride is. I guess I will be keeping it a while longer. I do like the new style, but not at the cost of that smooth ride.

The rough ride problem that's associated with the Mag Ride Suspension has been solved. Part of the solution was exactly what most people thought, replace the computer controlled shocks with standard shocks. However that would create an alert light on the dash and in the DIC. Two companies, could be more, have come up with sensors that allow you to R&R those Mag Ride shocks with standard shocks. X-Enginerring sells a kit for $425.00 that includes a ride sensor and level sensor for 4 wheels. Replace the factory sensors with these and the computer thinks the Mag Ride shocks are still on the vehicle. I installed AC Delco OEM shocks and my Tahoe rides great.
