4WD issues
2007 Tahoe 252000 miles
Service 4 wheel drive came on, mechanic said it was the motor... still working but will need to be changed. Since I don't use 4WD too often I wasn't going to worry about it.
Today when pulling out of a parking lot, everything seemed stiff and hard to accelerate. I'm thinking great transmission is finally going. I pull into another parking lot and happened to looked down and saw I was in 4WD low, but the switch was still on 2WD. considering you shouldn't be able to engage 4WD low without the vehicle being in neutral I'm assuming this could be very bad.
Is there a way I can just disengage 4WD, take something off or unplug something where it's no longer an option for now?

fuses
I'd look for a fuse called 4WD or 4wd motor.
or you could trace the system to the transfer case, and see if on there you can find the wiring harness that connects to the actual motor, but I think I'd go for the fuse method first.
on my 1998 wrangler I busted the front driveshaft (bent it) off road... and on a wrangler it spins whenever the front wheels spin (no disconnecting hubs... stronger/simpler/cheaper design).
anyway, I had to disconnect the front shaft at the front axle end, then I bungiee'd it up to the frame. lol.
No more 4WD for me
Ohh to be 18 again...
