Question 5.3 Top End Rebuild

Hello,

I am about to rebuild the top end of my '09 5.3 AFM "0" motor and have some basic questions. (300k on a 2WD Suburban)

I was elbow-deep in 350's for most of the 80's and 90's but haven't done much on new motors. I am rebuilding this one because the shop that replaced the oil-sending unit did not get oil pressure into the top end, and several lifters collapsed immediately when they started it up. They claimed it was a worn-out engine and wouldn't do anything about it.

Q1: Is it worth removing the hood, radiator, grill, etc to do a top-end rebuild? Should I pull it?

Q2: I plan to do a DOD/VLOM delete, any thoughts here?

Q3: Should I upgrade the camshaft as long as I am replacing it?

Any input is appreciated.

PS: Both of my Suburbans exhibit the Stabilitrak/Power Steering/Non-Shifting issues randomly. Have never heard a comprehensive reason.
