no - run through a full tank and hand calculate your mileage. even with 100% city we have never gotten below 13.5 mpg. usually around 15mpg with city driving

thanks but the only prob is that the gas guage appears to fluctuate so idk how low i want to let it get while i guess how many gallons are left...is this a problem teh dealer is responsible to check as its stll under warranty? i love the truck but 7 mpg city is horrendous

you should be able to get at least 270 miles out of a tank in city driving, more likely 320 but 270 will put you on the safe side....
The sending unit on the fuel pump is probably bad, you could have it repaired but if they are going to drop the tank to do it I would consider a whole new fuel pump while you are there....

"They" being the dealer who sold it to you?
Depends on what kind of warranty the vehicle came with... the 3yr 36k would but you are out of that one, but the 5yr 100k may cover the fuel pump, check with your dealer on that, you can also read about the warranty here http://www.gm.com/vehicles/warranty/

Default Avg MPG and mileage from a tank of Gas

Here is a screen snap of my fill up record for my 07 Tahoe with 5.3L 3.42 gears
note none of my trip readings are less then 250 miles (except for 1 where I filled up at about a half tank)
So you should easily be able to get 270 out of a full tank safely....unless you are drag racing at every stop light your numbers should be similar...

i bought it one week ago today and have put 153 miles on it almost all city or short trips on the highway and it is saying 7.8 mpg and im at 3/8 tank if the gas guage is correct ....but i dont see getting another 100+ miles out of just over a quarter tank...something is either killing my gas or the guage is really screwed up...i have no idea what it could be as i dont let it idle long or use the remote start and i dont drive heavy

Reset the DIC for the Avg MPG, and that should correct the low reading
as for the in accurate gauage check with your dealer as that may be covered...
do a few searches in forum as I am pretty sure Chevrolet Customer Service posted the warranty specs and the fuel pump was covered ( however the fuel level sending unit may not be)

You need to do a hand calculation on a few fillups as previously suggested before going to the dealer.
