Engine "missing or loading" at lower RPM. 350-auto-250,000 miles. Replaced-cap/rotor/wires/plugs/fuel filter/air filter-all the usual stuff. Still misses. Pulled new cap-very dirty!

Could it possibly be a worn out distributer with so many miles? Or anyone have other ideas?

Thank you in advance!

did the spark plugs look very bad when you changed them? did the tune up fix the problem for a while then it came back?

I had that issue on a 91 S-10 that I fooled with for months. I kept throwing parts at it and eventually took it to the local Chevy dealer to diagnose. $70.00 bucks later they say "We don't know what's wrong with it." I went to Auto Zone and bought a new computer, which was pretty cheap for that truck, and replaced it. Truck ran like a brand new one. I'm not suggesting that you replace the computer, yet.. I would suspect that the distributor might be shot. That's not a hard fix on a 1991 model. I just replaced the distributor on my 1999 Honda CRV. It would get hot and quit. I discovered that I could drive it in 2nd gear and limp home. Anyway, that new cap being very dirty suggest that something in the distributor is bad. I'll bet a rebuilt distributor for a 1991 sburb is pretty affordable. Looks like remans on-line are around $60 bucks. O'rileys has them for about $100.00.
