Default 94 Suburban 4WD Rear End Replacement Options

I just picked up a 94 Suburban that had rearend issues - being that the previous owner's mechanic took out the entire carrier assembly leaving only the axles and a housing! Apparently something let loose (I can see the marks on the interior of the housing) ruining the assembly. I need to double check the 3.73 ratio (tow pkg) but does the option exist to use a 2 wheel drive unit and just swap the 2WD 5 lug axles with my 6 lug axles? The splines on the axles don't appear to be damaged but I haven't had a chance to pull them to take a really good look.
Just didn't know if I am limited to finding a 4WD rear end only.

Any comments are well appreciated.
