Default 96 5.7 hard starting when warm?

my burb has 158,000 on her and she purrs all the time. It fires right up stone cold all the time, (I do have a new battery and starter), but if she sits for say a half an hour I have to crank it unusually long before it starts and then runs perfectly. I've read here that it most likely a fuel pressure regulator but I've asked two "professional" mechanics and one says it's probably the fuel pump and the other says quite possibly the fuel filter. I'm thinking they both want to screw me. Any thoughts? ( I just didn't want to go through putting in a new regulator and finding out that's not it)...

Welcome to the forum.

If it has some type of fuel injection, it could be an injector leaking and sort of flooding it when hot.
