Default 96 tahoe 4x4 tanny swap?

moms tranny went (reverse only) drive is fine except the shifing doesnt really work unless u let off the gas.
other then buying a reman tranny from any place here.
the "pick-n-pull" has them for 99.00 with warranty. what gm's can i pull a tranny from (othe then the obvious same year)

also . mom drive like a old lady she said the truck ran fine reverse etc. but noticed it was taking a while to shift while driving.
i do notice that if i put it in reverse the rpm does drop a little but still doesnt engage into reverse.
the guys at advance auto said maybe the (r) (1st) cylinoid(sp) maybe bad
I've read that the sun shell gear gives out but most everyone that said that also had the drive gears gone too.

any ideas?
(yes the tranny shop "looked" at it and said needs a tranny) but they only did the shift it in reverse and that was it)
i did change the fluid and it looked normal for tranny fluid. nothgn floating around in it.
