My buddy was driving his suburban when the serpentine belt snapped and wrapped around the cooling fan. The temp gauge pinned and the engine started smoking. The next day I came to look at it and the fan is now loose and wobbly. What should our next step be?

It sounds like the fan clutch may have gotten wrecked when the fan belt wrapped around it. You can get a new one from any auto parts store. The fact the temp pinned is not good but doesn’t necessarily mean it’s wrecked, especially if you happened to have synthetic oil in the engine which is more resistant to high heat. The fact it smoked is not suprising. I would put new fan clutch in it and then a new belt. Check you tube for some videos on it. Check the oil. If it’s black, change the oil and filter. Cross your fingers and start it up.
