Default Buying a 2005 Suburban 1500 and need pointers...

I'm thinking about buying an 05 Burban 1500 4x4 with high mileage (215K) for $4400 and need some pointers, what to look out for, known issues, etc... Anything you can help with is much appreciated. I'll see it with a neighbor who's worked on GM cars to inspect it but a list of things to look for would help out a lot.

I've browsed carcomplaints.com as well as repairpal.com and the amount of issues posted seem to be at acceptable levels for year 2005. I have a couple of days to browse the forums (just registered) and looking forward to your replies. Thanks in advance!

I would offer 2800. I sold my loaded and mint 2005 With 100k for $8700. With that kind of mileage I'd negotiate hard, no matter what the condition

make sure all 4x4 functions work, look for oil leaks, check transfer case for leak, do a search on the bearing retainer wearing on transfer case.

Otherwise just check for things that operate etc.

The best sub I had was a 2005 z71, in two years I put 140K on mine and it ran like a champ.

Price sounds about right. I sold my '01 Burb a few years ago to a buddy for $4k, with 195k on the clock.

Things to look for, specific to this vehicle type:

-Fuel pump - it's likely been replaced at least once. They usually last about 100k miles. Listen for a whine from the fuel tank with the ignition on and engine off.
-Window regulators - make sure all power windows raise and lower smoothly and quickly.
-A/C - check the clutch and compressor. Make sure it blows nice and cold. Listen for funny noises.
-Exhaust manifold gaskets - they tend to develop leaks.
- 4wd system - run the transfer case through all of the shifts; make sure there are no funny noises or abnormal delays. 4Lo should be engaged while rolling at 2-3 MPH. Turn the wheel while in 4wd on dry pavement - you should hear the tires scrubbing - that verifies the front axle is engaged.
-Blend doors - make sure the system changes from vents/floors/defroster smoothly.
- Brakes - these trucks are "underbraked." Check the rotors and pads, check the rotors for warping.
-the contacts on the rear window defrost tend to break. Make sure it's working properly.

They're great trucks. My buddy loves the '01 he bought from me. Other than rust, it still runs great at 220k miles with the original engine and transmission.

Thanks everyone for quick replies! I'll definitely point out everything that was discussed above and probably offer around $3600, if everything checks out. I arrived at that price by doing an Edmunds.com appraisal, got $2419 trade in, $3385 private party and $4496 dealer so I added them all up and divided by 3. In the meantime, the mechanic who'll go with me to see the vehicle said he's seen only a handful of American trucks lasting 250K miles and that was with regular maintenance so he advised against me getting this beast, but will come check it out nonetheless.
