Default Changing the Radio Head Unit

I am getting ready to change out my head unit in the Tahoe. I currently have just the single disc CD player. I got a hold of a six disc CD changer head unit. Will this be an easy swap out? Is there anything I need to know or look for? Likeare the head units locked with a password or anything like that?
Thanks in advance for any information.

I am not sure about this swap. However, you might/probably have to take this to the dealer to have this tech II programmed. I know you do for the navigation units. I am not sure though if the 6disks get VIN locked liked the navigation units.

Dave/ZX would know this answer, or just call your dealership, they may know also. Sorry I couldnt be more help.

If the head unit has been previously installed in another vehicle then you will need to have it unlocked via Tech-II otherwise it should be an easy install.

Hey ZX, what is Tech-II. I installed the head unit and it is locked. I called the service department. At first they told me that it can not be done and I should not of switched radios. I told them it can be done. They said that dont know how to do it and I should call back on Wed when another guy is there.
I want as much information as possible so I can explain what I need to the guy.

Thanks for any information in advance.

Tech II is a handheld computer device that is plugged into your vehicle. They read the data of the vehicle/radio etc. They download the data to the Tech II and take it to their computer to get the programming and take it back to your vehicle!

Something like this! There are threads about the Navigation/Camera upgrades that have a lot more details on this!

Wonder why they don't just have a wireless link so they can cut out the middleman (Tech II)?

Even better yet, why dont they make all radios interchangable without tech II being done? Or why not allow the user to change the options/functions on the radio itiself. An example, why cant I go into the Head Unit or Nav Unit and turn the camera option on and off. Rather than paying a dealership to do it. I am sure it is to complicated or something, but seems reasonable!
