Default Engine turns forever before firing....

Hello, Newbie here..... I'm looking for a little direction, I have a 99' Tahoe and it seems that my engine turns a good amount before it fires up. I always turn the ignition to the on position and wait to hear the fuel pump prime up. I just gave it a tune up, cap, rotor, plugs, wires and fuel filter. The truck has 92k on it and has an MSD 6al box,my friend told me that the MSD box tends to fowl the contacts on the cap and rotor, but now that all that is new, what would still be causing this? The fuel pump still sounds pretty strong, any advice is appreciated.

Check your fuel pressure at the manifold. What plugsand wiresdid you install, and did you check for proper gap on the plugs?

A classic sign of dirty fuel injectors.

Plugs: AC Delco and I was told that they're already gapped
Wires: 8mm MSD
Cap & Rotor: Accel w/Brass contacts
Fuel Filter: AC Delco also

I didn't know about the fuel pressure at the manifold, thanks. I thought maybe a it could be the fuel injectors after I did the tune up and it didn't get better, Thanks fellas, this helps.

You should alway double check your gap setting. If the sparkplug box says do not gap, you don't gap.The plugs that don't need to be regapped will have a cardboard cylendar around the threads protecting electrode. You may want to recheck your gap.

AC delco plugs come pre-gapped and ready to go, this is not the problem.

Yeah, sounds like everything's copescetic, don't worry about the gap if they're Delcos. I was thinking the issues developed AFTER that you'd installed all that. But rereading your posts, I'm thinking zx1100's on the right track.

If you got the plugs from a parts store, I would check the gap. I have worked in auto parts for 10 years (ASE Parts Specialist). If the plugs don't come with a sleave on them to protect the gap, they can be dropped and inadvertently regapped. I have seen many people come into the store and they didn't check their cap. It is the cause of the same problem you haveamong others. AC plugs do not come with a sleave. I could not tell you how many times it is possible for a plug to get regapped in shipping. The plugs go to a parts warehouse, then into a tote, then on a pallet, then in a truck, then off a truck at the store, then in a tote that gets thrown around. I would check the gap--not to undermind what ZX said. It is just from my experience.

This issue was there BEFORE and AFTER he replaced the plugs. At this point I'm not at all concerned that his plugs are causing the problem. Might want to re-gap the plugs for his own peace of mind, but I don't think I'd bother unless you start having problems. Focus on the fuel for now. Check manifold pressure and if it's good (which it likely is if it's running fine after startup) and then move on to injectors.

Uraijit/Toy/Zx
Thanks, I'm checking the fuel pressure at the manifold tonight and will conduct the do-it himself injector clean with a kit they sell at this local parts store. You guys roc! I really appreciate the direction, thanks again
