Had a 2016 Tahoe LTZ for Two Days - Review...ish
So... I have owned a 1995 Tahoe, 2009 Tahoe, and got my hands on a 2016 for two days last week...
Backstory: The wiper motor on my Tesla gave up, and I needed the repair ASAP. They didn't have any loaners, so they sent me to Enterprise (on their dime).
Picked up a 2016 Tahoe LTZ, black.
So, I have gotten to see the evolution of this road beast.
Overall the 2016 is an obvious evolution of the Tahoe. Certainly not a revolution. The driving position felt odd compared to my 09. Hard to describe, other than the seats didn't feel as comfortable as the 09.
The side mirrors are much smaller, making towing and merging more difficult.
The lane keep option was interesting... but honestly I had to turn it off. It would self steer for me, and I didn't like that.
The parking sensors front/rear were a marked improvement over the 09.
The satnav was also improved from the 09. you can enter things while rolling, if there is weight in the passenger seat. (I think)
it's nothing like my daily driver... (the sat nav)... but it's more usable than it was in 09.
The 'cockpit' felt claustrophobic compared to the 09. You'd expect a huge truck to be large on the inside, and I actually dislike how the dash wraps around the front seats.
The wheels had exposed lug nuts. The 09 design was better. Center cap covers them. easier to clean, and stay clean.
there was no 4-low option (on this truck). I've not needed it much, but when you do.... you do.
the truck felt lower overall, but has a higher waistline. I didn't like this. I like truck windows that come lower than car windows.
The keyfob thing was nicer than the 09, but not really anything I hadn't seen before.
I couldn't figure out how to 'radio' with the car 'off'. tapping start turns the car on. Almost left it running quite a few times (damn your ease of use Tesla).
sunroof felt the same. power windows... finally GM has auto up on... TWO of the FOUR buttons? what the heck ? is it seriously $0.00001 cheaper to use different buttons on a $80k truck?
all the buttons auto up/down from all positions on my non-gas-sucker
Filling it with gas... capless filler cap. I think Ford did that a while ago.
Ride was nice, controlled. not much different than 09
Anything else, ask away. The rental smelled like smoke, but that wasn't GMs fault.
No, I didn't wash the rental. Ok, fine. I did wash the front wheels which were covered in brake dust...

I had a 2015 Suburban rental and I won't swear to it, but it seemed like the windshield had a UV coating as there didn't seem to be a much heat coming in OR the AC just worked exceptionally good even when the vehicle was sitting in full sun... my rental was also black... must be a rental car thing...

Are those plasti dipped wheels on the 09? The badges to? I've been considering doing mine but wasn't sure how difficult it was to do. Plus I have them rotated enough that I worry about the place that does that for me, messing them up, or if the dipping affects the balance?
