Default I think I discovered a remote starter on my Suburban

So I went ahead and bought the 2005 Suburban Z71 (from my post last week) and brought it home last night. I putting things away in the burb this afternoon and happened to notice a small antenna hanging down behind the rear view mirror. This antenna has the words XR Plus visible on it. A google search only tells me that XR Plus (or XR products) are used on a lot of remote start/security systems. So a few minutes ago I decided to do some more searching around and found a module under the dash labeled Directed Electronics 457G. Google search on that tells me it is a GM bypass lock module. All of this is telling me that my "new to me" Suburban might have an added bonus my dealer didn't even know about. Question is where might I find other information about the system so that I might be able to go out and purchase a remote to use it?

So you decided to go with the Z71? In my opinion that was a good choice

I don't know too much about remote starters on vehicles. I just know that I have one on my Tahoe and that it works great on a very cold morning Other then that I can't be of much help there.

However, if you do have a remote starter a good place to check would be here. I am not sure if your system is aftermarket or not, but this site is a good place that should tell you everything that your vehicle had on it when it came from the factory. Simply type your VIN number into the box, and hit search. You will then get a fairly large list of numbers and specs about your vehicle. What is nice about this site is that it tells you in "plain english" what all of those numbers (RPO codes) mean. Check it out; it may help you out in your search.

Congrats on your purchase! I am sure you will LOVE your Suburban very much!!

Factory remote start was not available in GMT800 trucks.

Go to a car electronics installer that does alarms. I'll bet if you throw one of the techs $20 or so he'd be happy to tell you what you have.
