Default Interesting advice from two mechanics

I had to return to the my dealer in Phoenix and got a free oil change and took a friends car to a shop.

Both mechanics advised me of this without being primed.

Use the highest quality oil I can buy and change filters more regularly than the oil. He said your RP oil (I use Royal Purple) will last 6K easily but buy a 2nd oil filter and replace it every 3K miles.

Thoughts?

I run RP, and just do a filter and oil change when the OLM tells me to. Cheap insurance. I work my truck hard. My local Walmart carries the 5-quart jugs of RP.

But yes, most full synthetics can handle more mileage if you just change the filter.

If you really want to learn about oil, go check out bobistheoilguy.

One of my previous mechanics would drain the Mobil 1 out of my engine, and put it in his personal car, knowing the oil had plenty of life left.

I don't understand why filters are getting so dang small small means less surface area and a quicker restriction of flow....

Probably getting smaller because they are cheaper to make.
