I've had it!

120k miles and I have yet to find a decent set of breaks and rotors. I've gone through every type of pad and rotor AutoZone sells and I keep ending up with warped rotors!

What are you guys using?

MDTAHOE December 19th, 2010 5:07 PM

Centric rotor and Akebono pads. How are the wheels being tightened? If they are not tightened pretty close to equally that could contribute to the problem. What year is the truck?

Using a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts is important, uneven torque will cause the rotors to warp prematurely and easily with in 500 miles of replacement.

And torque in the proper sequence and re-torque after 50 miles if aluminum wheels.

it's an 07...someone recommended pads and rotors from car quest...anyone have a bad experience with these?

ousig2408 December 20th, 2010 9:27 AM

MD where did you get your pads/rotors from? I am going to have to replace ours sometime soon. on the last tire rotation they told me all 4 were at 3 or 4 mm can't remember exactly.
we have 57000 miles

73shark December 20th, 2010 1:25 PM

I hope he said 30 or 40 mm. :)

RacerX December 20th, 2010 3:17 PM

3mm pads are like 25% life left, 4mm ~ 33%.

I think you may be overtightening the lugs. Thats what I hate about going to the flat fix places here. A little Mexican guy with an impact gun with 600ft-lbs of torque going to town on my lugs, I dont like.

73shark December 20th, 2010 6:04 PM

I thought he was referring to rotor thickness.

RacerX December 20th, 2010 10:01 PM

If you assume that most pads have 12mm when new, in the front and 10mm new in the rear.
