Default Looking at buying a 2003 Tahoe (QUESTIONS)

I am looking at buying a 2003 Tahoe 4x4 with 145,000 miles, but I just found out it has the 4.8L motor instead of the 5.3. Should this be a turn off? Are the 4.8s good and reliable motors?

I am looking for a 4x4 Tahoe. Something I can haul the kids in.... Any help and tips would be appreciated.

I have no personal experience with the 4.8, but in my 10 years of hanging around on various Chevy/GM truck boards, I've never seen any issues with it. If you're not planning to do any serious towing, the 4.8 should be fine as a family hauler.

Just an FYI - if you're willing to tolerate the larger size, all Suburbans from 2000-2006 have the 5.3. While I've heard a lot of Tahoe owners express regret wishing they'd gotten a Suburban, I've never heard a Suburban owner express regret wishing they'd gotten a Tahoe. Just my $.02.
