i got some spray graphite and hit my shaft with it years ago because it would click. my friend took his 04 gmc into the dealer where they changed the shaft under warranty which was nice. but he went to leave and tried to stop in the parking lot near the highway and couldnt stop because they forgot to remove the old shaft from behind the brake pedal.
