Default Nav LCD won't flip down to insert map disc

I am installing a nav unit from an 08 Denali in my 07 Silverado. I basically have all of the wiring done - VSS, VCIM, external DVD. I haven't done the amp yet (non-Bose truck). There is no map disc in the unit currently. I'm assuming the guy took it out before he sold it to me. When I go the the menu, nav tab, and push the "insert map disc" button, nothing happens! Am I missing something here??

If you are talking about the button on the screen, you might try pressing it in different places as sometimes the entire displayed button is not sensitive.

Good idea, since the button is like 3 inches wide. I'm not sure if that will do it though, because the button is highlighting when I press it. It just sits there for a few seconds and then goes to the nav screen/compass.

Can I fix it myself? Anywhere in Austin that can fix it (dealership) or do I need to ship it to someone?

I'm assuming there's no way to manually open it?

I have only dealt with Henna and Champion and have had good results with both, but I bet they will only replace the entire unit not just the motor.
If you are electronics savvy you might be able to do it yourself but finding that motor will probably be the bear.
And there is the remote possibility that once you remove power from the unit and open it the obvious warranty voiding but it may also need to be reset/reprogrammed via dealer only tools, shawnvw may be able to better speak to that thou...

shouldn't have a problem with programing as long as the radio goes back into what it came out of.

I don't suggest you do it yourself...they can get quite complicated with small springs, screws, and linkages. Any dealer should be able to send it away to their ESC(Electronics Service Center). I think the US uses Autocraft Electronics. http://www.autocraft.com
GM uses these guys in the US to fix all their radios and to distribute onstar modules
You may contact them directly to see if they will even deal with you...they'll probably tell you to go to the dealer, but its worth a shot to save the mark-up
