Default need help with surburban pitman arm

I just put a new pitman arm on a 96 surburban and I can't get it to tighten all the way down no where near as close to the steering gear as the old one.It is about 7/16'' verses about 1/8''.Is this ok?

Hi, probably you should heat the pitman arm near the steering box, you can use torch, but be careful with the steering box seal, it can be damaged.
