Here's a gauge set. One on the left. So you're looking at a minimum of $150 to tool up to do this properly. If you don't evacuate properly, you're just asking for trouble. The moisture in the system can form an acid or freeze up the system.

BTW the 6.8 oz of PAG oil sounds about right.

you can loan the pump and gauge set from Autozone for free - just pay the cost up front, use it for up to 48 hours, and return for a full refund.

Just make sure the quick release fittings are in good shape - I had one bust on me during the re-fill. Green everywhere...

Compressor and everything put back together and I can't seem to get the lines running to the compressor to not leak. After moving around and taking off and back on I finally got the top line to hold and not leak. The bottom though still does. Is there a reason for this and does anyone have any ideas on getting to do right. I have changed 3-4 compressors but have never had this problem before

It seems to have a leak around the lines where they come out of the compressor. I loosened and tighten the top one until it seems to be holding now but the lower one still doesn't hold pressure any ideas

Not sure how the seal is make but if it is w/ O-rings, then be sure to use the right size new ones and lube them w/ refrigerant oil.

I am also thinking of replacing the compressor on my 01 suburban but i think it may just need the clutch replaced. The reason i'm thinking of replacing both is b/c of the price difference. I can get just a clutch for about $190 or both compressor with clutch for about $270. It has been snapping belts i replaced the belt tensionor but it still snaps belts. When the belt is on the AC works fine, but i hear there is a common problem with the clutch that snaps belts. I see that replacing both the compressor and clutch maybe be a pain, but b/c of the cheap price difference, should I replace both?

Thanks for your reply
