New 5.7 Vortec engine
So I am almost done installing a new Goodwrench engine in my 1999 Suburban and I have couple questions for you seasoned pros. The manual says there is no ignition timing set or adjustment. What I gathered is you bring #1 to TDC and point the rotor towards #1 on the cap and call it good. Sound right? Also, what do most you think as far as oil is concerned. I was thinking I would go full synthetic from the git-go. Any of you guys changed one of these?
Thanks for the help,
Eric
I'm running full synthetic Mobil1.
You'll need to do a crank relearn.
Yes about the timing and aligning of the dizzy....BUT...
You'll need to get a scanner hooked upto it and have the cam/crank correlation angle (CMP retard) set at +/- 2deg

You are right about timing. All you can do is get it close & then use a bi-directional scan tool to check cam retard. Should be 0 +/-2 degrees at around 2K. Then perform a cam/crank relearn. If you get it close it will run but the 'Check Engine' light will stare you down.
